Four is pleased to present LAUNCH / Making Do, an exhibition and awards programme supporting recent graduates. Making Do investigates how nine artists and one curator mobilise a way of adopting or doing things, modes of operation or schemata of actions that are concerned with the practice of the everyday in all its materiality. How can the group exhibition-form offer a potential space of productive exchange regardless of a reductive, restrictive or regulatory imposition as its starting point?
LAUNCH / Making Do was initiated by Four to support young emerging Irish artists at an early stage in their professional practice. This awards programme is significant in fostering and shaping the future of structures in place for graduates with the potential of strengthening the profile of the educational institutions themselves.
LAUNCH has a commitment to provide exposure to innovative and exciting artists, and to offer an important platform from which artists can develop their creative and professional practice. It is intended to promote opportunities and public discussion of new developments in young contemporary Irish art.
Launch is initiated by Four in association with Visual Artists Ireland and The Lab, Dublin City Council. This initiative is supported by Dublin Institute of Technology, Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology, and The National College of Art and Design.
A Publication will be produced to coincide with the group exhibition, as well as Awards being attributed to each of the nine participating Artists.
These Awards will be presented at an Award Ceremony on the Opening night and have been contributed by Firestation Artists' Studios, Four, Gallery 126, The Lab, Dublin City Council, Leitrim Sculpture Centre, National Sculpture Factory, NIVAL, Queen Street Studios and Signal Arts Centre.
