LAUNCH / Making Do's Collaborators
an exhibition and awards programme supporting recent graduates.

Curated by Paul O'Neill

Visual Artists Irelands interest in this project extended significantly beyond providing an exhibition platform for recent graduates. From the start it was our ambition to use this opportunity to raise the expectations of a new generation of artists in terms of the treatment and professional respect they receive from those that mediate and present their work to a public.

We hope that the experience of this exhibition will instil a confidence in the artists that took part in this process so as in the future they will expect and demand similar standards from those publicly funded institutions that present and mediate their work.

The LAB is committed to supporting emerging artists and providing opportunities for first solo shows and to work with more established practitioners who are investigating new and diverse arts practices.  Due to the investigative nature of the laboratory space, the gallery, wherever possible and desirable, shows primarily new or recent work by artists.

The Making Do exhibition at the LAB is the first of the LAUNCH series of exhibitions and awards initiated by Four to support graduates of DIT, NCAD, and IADT.  It provides a public platform in the city centre to showcase these nine artists at the beginning of their professional arts career.

LAUNCH is a collaboration between The Lab, Dublin City Council and Visual Artists Ireland and is sposored by Dublin Institute of Technology, Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology and The National College of Art and Design.
